Q: Am curious: how can a USB port (which is rated at 5 watt) supply the power to a 12 watt lamp???

arowland I think you have confused your units. A USB 2 socket can deliver 0.5A at 5V, which is 2.5W. A long way short of 12W! USB 3 raised the current to 0.9A (4.5W) and 3.1 to 1.5A (7.5W), though some fast ch... See More
