the reason i have selected this product from others is the casing around the sensor which i find very useful in application stopping light falling from side. but i didn't receive the product as shown, the case was missing and there is no use choosing this over other TCS230 products

Not at all usable for consistency. most of the strips inside were shut off on testing for just few minutes. the strip heats up to high temperatures and the resistors starts to break one after the other making each strip fail eventually
