I finally found the time, I got the transformer, so I tried it. so far only line inputs, microphone sometime later. To be sure, but before connecting the speakers, I measured the voltage at the output to see if it was OK. The voltage was 0 as it should be. So I also measured the current through the power FETs with a voltage drop across the 5W resistors. To my surprise, this was also 0. So no quiescent current flows through the FETs! Normally it should flow about 100 mA. And the resulting sound matched that. It was distorted, even as if the amplifier was oscillating. I don't know if it's a bad ground or with that 0 current through the FETs. I would welcome some advice on this issue.
