It looks and works just as the andonstar usb microscope, but without the brandname. I tested the device with the following software AmCap (http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=video#AMCap ) and also with micam (http://science4all.nl/?Microscopy_and_Photography___MICAM ) and it works perfectly to obtain a good compromise between frame rate and resolution make sure you select the MJPG compresion setting and you will get a 15fps with 1600x1200.

Very happy with this purchase. Worked right out of the box. I connected it to my Windows 7 Acer notebook, clicked on the image capture software and saw the item I had the microscope aimed at. The all metal stand that comes with it is very sturdy and the focusing handle is smooth. You can vary the light level with the variable thumb wheel on the video cable and it has a switch to snap a picture. But I find it more convenient to capture it by the software. Does both pictures and video. Only does digital zoom via the software. Great for inspecting printed circuit boards. 1.3 megapixels is ok, I would of given this review 5 stars if it were >2.0 megapixels.

Works perfectly on Windows with Micam. Does not work on OSX "out of the box". Mechanical quality is very good for the price.
