Have put my own software in the esp8266 and have mount it on an Arduino Mega with an display. Together making a very nice weatherstation. Arduino Mega, HX8357C display and ESP8266 wireless shield.

This has been a great learning tool. Because there's a second UNO on the shield, if you're clever enough you can run programs both on the base Uno and on the shield as well. Hardest thing is to remember to set the serial data switches, but once this was programmed it performed beautifully. Recommend as a learning aid and as a powerful extender to the Uno.

Mine actually arrived and worked - to a point. You will have to hack it if you want to use the hardware serial, in fact I recommend using the NodeMCU firmware anyway. Then you have a nice breakout board for development of projects! Always be aware that things might not arrive or work with Banggood, and there is little to no recourse.

If you are thinking deploy a in-built home server or "Automatize" your house then this is for you. You can upload you sketch to this expansion and disconnect them of Arduino board. It will work alone.
