You have to get the lighting just right to be able to read the data, but that is normal for black and white LCD displays like this. The app works okay, but doesn't always manage to read the data. Strangely it reads one unit that is further away than one it has trouble reading, and the 2nd nearest unit it only picks up now and then. The other annoying thing with the app is that the settings text is white on a light grey background, so is almost impossible to read.
