I was very pleasantly surprised by this colorful mat! It is more like memory foam than a shaggy rug and certainly much thicker than a towel or piece of plain cloth. The colors are vibrant and the mat is well constructed. I use if for my meditation and it provides the right amount of cushion without being distractedly fluffy. If I am not quick about picking it up, the cat immediately pounces on the mat, believing that it is his for the day. Easily washes and dries quickly - I do not use a dryer for this item and use only the delicate cycle but the design and construction have remained in tact, as nice as it was when it arrived.
