Was curious how this device works. It has a grid of temperature sensitive dots made with liquid crystal. Each vertical column of dots responds to a fixed temperature. Placing the device on a tank causes the liquid crystal columns to show the temperature of the tank at various heights. An unused tank will be at uniform temperature, so a single vertical column will display. A used tank will have an upper section that is at a lower temperature than the lower section due to the boiling liquid fuel in the bottom section of the tank. Thus the device will show two half columns, one above the liquid, indicating where the liquid to gas transition is, and hence the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. Magic.

ideasinaction so it matters very much where on the tank you place it? and direct Sunshine (never good for a gastank lol) is also a nono I guess...
