Very nice effect, convincing especially from across a room, however close up, you can see the pixels to some extent. The flame effect is fairly random and does not seem to repeat that frequently. It is a very active flame effect, simulating a torch is a bit of wind, so the overall light output varies considerably. This may not be desirable if this lamp is intended to be used as a primary source of light. I like this bulb better then the models available that have the blue ring around their base. Although the blue ring bulbs diffuse the light better and don't show the pixels as much, their color is more orange and the flame effect is not as realistic. furthermore the flame effect on the blue ring bulbs repeats too frequently, and thus produces a strobe light like effect.
