The ESP8266 is one of my favourite MCUs for home automation projects and the D1 mini is a great form factor. The Pro gives you extra flash memory (16Mb rather than 4Mb) and includes a Lithium battery interface. This module is good value and I highly recommend it. NOTE: Even though an external antenna is supplied, the board is set up to use the internal antenna. Make sure you switch over the zero-Ohm resistor on the board to the external antenna position if you want to use the antenna.
